A Day In The Life During Seeding

During seeding which is arguably the most busy time of the year on our farm everyone has a certain expectation and job. For me, I was the operator, my day would start bright and early at 4:30 when I wake up. I make a quick lunch and get dressed and head out for the day. At this time I am the only one awake so I have responsibilities before I even head out to the field. First I would check the fuel truck and make sure it's filled with diesel, if it needs to be filled I would fill it and go make a coffee in the shop. Once I am ready to leave for the field I will drive out to the tractor. The first thing I do when I get out there is check the oil and start the tractor to warm it up. After that I would start filling the tractor with diesel and get all the monitors up and running properly. Most of the time I would have to fill the drill with fertilizer and seed in the morning so I would do that first and then I would hit the field. I will text my uncle around 8-9 in the morning if I need more seed or fertilizer and he would come grab the semi and take it back to the yard and refill the truck with both seed and fertilizer. By 11 my lunch would be gone already. During seeding I check my runs every hour or so just to make sure no hoses are plugged and stretch my legs. I would fill 2-3 times a day before Hunter came out to the field after he was done school at around 3 o'clock. Once he took me over I would help him fill and take the semi back to the yard and fill with seed and fertilizer again so he could seed as long as he wanted to and could before he ran out. Once I get back to the farm I may do the odd job that needs done or I would be done for the day and eat some supper, clean up myself, shower and go to bed around 7-8pm. I would repeat this day after day for a month or so until we are done seeding. Now keep in mind everyday is different and different problems may occur.
